When you’re single and looking for love, it’s easy to focus on the way YOU judge and perceive other people and to forget about how they might judge and perceive you. This commercial from Chevrolet is a great example of how consistently, innately, innocently, and shallowly we judge people, based off of something as simple as what kind of car they drive. Watch this: You Know You Want a Truck

While I’m not recommending or suggesting you run to your nearest Chevy dealer and trade in your beloved automobile for a shiny new truck, I do appreciate this video. It gives us only one example out of a million examples of how we judge someone – in this case an attractive man – based off of one piece of information.

So while you’re out judging others, remember that they are, in turn, judging you. Put some thought and awareness into this as you are “out and about”, looking for love. Did you just tag someone with your own biased judgment based purely off of your own assumptions? Did you dismiss someone who could actually have mate-potential JUST because of one random factor that led you to make a completely bogus decision about them?

Now what about you?? Is there something you’re doing/wearing/driving/portraying that could lead others to pass an incorrect or negative judgment about you without getting to know you first? Step back and try to see yourself as others would, and if there might be something surrounding you that’s causing the wrong impression, fix it!! Lastly, if you want to be perceived as a certain kind of person, do a little research. What kinds of stereotypes are associated with that kind of person? What do they wear? Where do they frequent? How do they act? By incorporating some of these stereotypes into your dating life, you will automatically gain credibility as that “kind” of person. Just make sure it’s a positive, ethical one, OK? For me? Knowledge is power people, so use these tips for good, not evil!!

Lots of Love,

Emily

PS Glamour magazine’s article “If a Guy’s Coming to Pick You Up, Here’s the Hottest Car He Could Be Driving” identifies a pick-up truck (specifically a black one) as the #1 “hottest” car!
