I remember watching VH1’s “The Pickup Artist” every season, every episode. It was entertaining, funny, dramatic, interesting, and a little disturbing. As a woman, it was comical to me that these self-proclaimed “nerds” were learning how to be a mack-daddy. I felt so bad for these guys – awkward around girls, obnoxious, uber nerdy, abrasive… nothing about them was sexy. Or interesting. I thought to myself, “These poor guys don’t even know how to talk to a girl!” I figured this “boot camp” was a great way for them to find some self confidence and learn about what makes a woman tick.
A bit more research and my feelings toward the whole idea turned from appreciation and interest to disgust and disdain. These so-called “pickup artists”, or PUA’s for short, had one goal only – to get a strange girl into bed. Not eventually, but that night. All they cared about was sleeping with as many girls as possible! Grody. They learned how to take advantage of and prey on girls in bars and clubs and they would “seduce” them, forgetting about them the second they were done. That – to me – is the ultimate dirty bird. What woman in her right mind would want to even TALK to a guy like that, let alone sleep with him?
So I banished my previous acceptance of this concept to the dark recesses of my brain. Until, that is, I realized something – these techniques don’t need to to be used for evil – they should be used for good! The only thing better than a nice, fun, confident man is being the woman lucky enough to be approached by him! So here’s my deal: I am going to dive in, head first, and learn everything I can about these PUA’s and their techniques, and then I’m going to take what works and apply it to do good – like a superhero infected with powers that are beyond human realm. My goal is to help men gain the confidence and the tools to first find a good woman, then approach and woo her, and finally to begin a real relationship with her. Help a sister out here – guys – let me know if this is something that can help you!
The moral of the story is that not all manipulation is bad. When used without malice, without intent to fool or harm another, and when used with good intention, this form of manipulation can help nice guys meet amazing women that they normally wouldn’t have the tools to meet. So together, let’s figure our what can be learned from a pickup artist.
Lots of Love,
Emily
